40 weeks - Ready to pop!

Happenings of the Harper Household

Well then! I was at my doctor on Tuesday because Pea Baby & I now have to be checked every other day. I asked the midwife there about drinking Castor Oil (Rizinusöl), at which she immediately giggled. Apparently she had only heard about pregnant women drinking this, but never actually knew anyone who had tried it. She did, however, tell me what to mix the oil with so that it was a cocktail and, thus, not so strong. (Rizinus Cocktail) She said she wouldn't recommend it purely because she was scared she'd be on the toilet for 24 hours afterwards, but if I wanted to try it, that was the best way to do it.

Today I had my 40 week appointment. Everything was perfectly normal with my blood pressure and the baby's heart beat, movement, etc. It's pretty obvious, though, that he's running out of room in there. My doctor was finally back at the office today and I was able to get checked to see if I was dilated or not. But, surprise, surprise! I'm only about 1/2 cm dilated. Boo..

Because my doctor was not there on Tuesday to check if I was dilated, and because we were picking up my mother (!!!) from the airport Wednesday evening, I chose to wait until after today's appointment to drink the Castor Oil (Rizinus Cocktail).

With that said, this just went down the hatch! muahaha.

Rizinus Cocktail (as suggested by this midwife):
  • 1 shot champagne (German Sekt)
  • 2 spoonfuls of Castor Oil (Rizinusöl)
  • Orange Juice

And the weekly belly shot!

Symptoms: Well, I've got that back pain, and some feet in my ribs.. Same 'ol, same 'ol. Sunday I had some contractions, but I think they were just "Braxton Hicks" because they disappeared after I went to bed that evening. I had a couple pretty good contractions on Monday, nothing painful, but they were obviously bigger than those on Sunday.

Weight Gain: Today I weighed in at 86 kg (189.5 lbs). This puts me at +12 kg (26.4 lbs) since the beginning of my pregnancy, and +0.4 kg (0.88 lbs) since last week.

Cravings: Salad, bacon, and juice.

Food Aversions: Nothing that I didn't like before I was pregnant.

What made me cry this week: Pretty sure I managed to keep the tears away this week, even while picking up my mom from the airport!

Medical Stuff: Nothin'!

Something I am excited about: Everything! Baby should be here any day. (C'Mon Castor Oil!) My mom is here to meet her first grandson. And we're just planning on enjoying this vacation! :)

  1. Good luck with everything. Hope you don't have to wait too long. My first one was a week late and they chose to induce me because the boy was getting big. He weighed in at almost 9 lbs. !!!

    1. Yeah, we are REALLY hoping that I don't go TOO far over, and that I DON'T have to get a C-Section.. Because if that happens, I feel my mom will be spending most of her vacation WAITING for baby to arrive, rather than WITH baby. I want her to enjoy her time here!
